Pre-Test Procedures for Metabolic Profile & Lactate Assessment
Check list

Checklist for Cycling option

  • Bring your Personal bicycle you want to be tested on.
  • Rear tire must be clean and a slick tire.
  • Cycling shoes used to train/race in.
  • Cycling shorts and shirt/sports top
  • Water bottle
  • Hand towel
  • Hair pulled back if it is long
  • Medications (i.e. inhalers)

  • Closed toed athletic shoes comfortable to run / walk in.
  • Athletic shorts and shirt/sports top.
  • Water bottle
  • Hand towel
  • Hair pulled back if it is long
  • Medications (i.e. inhalers)

Pre-test Preparation :

Before the Assessment
  • Do not exercise on the morning or within 24 hours of the assessment.
  • Do not perform a hard workout within 48 hours of the assessment.
  • Do not perform a workout exceeding 90 minutes within 48 hours of the assessment.
  • Don't eat or drink (except water) or use tobacco within 3 hours of the assessment.
  • No thermogenic aids (weight loss products/metabolic enhancers) 24 hours prior to the test.
  • Do not consume alcohol 24 hours before the test.
  • If you are taking beta-blockers, you should should schedule the assessment at the time of the day that you typically exercise, if possible.
  • Take all other medications as usual. Bring all your medications with you to the assessment.
  • Must be "healthy" for at least 1 week prior to assessment
  • (women only) must avoid assessment during menstrual cycle
  • You will be asked to read and sign an informed consent that explains the purpose, benefits, and risks associated with the assessment. You will be given an opportunity to ask questions.
  • You will complete a brief health history survey to help determine if it is acceptably safe for you to do the assessment.
  • The fitness professional who is administering your assessment will explain the assessment procedures to you in detail, including how to communicate during the assessment.
  • Your heart rate and blood pressure will be measured at rest. Your height and weight may be measured.
  • Read the Par-q . If any answers are marked yes please bring a Doctors note on your physician's letterhead stating you’re cleared for vigorous exercising.
  • For Metabolic Profile - Bring your Personal Assessment Kit (mask). If you do not have one you'll need to purchase one for your assessment. When scheduling your appointment you'll be able to purchase your mask.
