Lactate Assessment

A Lactate measurement is used by sport scientists and coaches to accurately determine training zones, recovery and much more. Lactate is a metabolic product that can be measured by taking a finger tip sample the same way diabetics monitor their blood sugar level. The blood lactate level increases with exercise intensity and shows clearly the transition from aerobic to anaerobic activity. Since the lactate measurement is completely individual it gives a precise method for testing and monitoring training intensity and recovery. Lactate measurement is far more precise than the outdated and inaccurate method of using percentages of maximum heart rate to set training zones. Because heart rate is an individual response, heart rate training zones need to be determined by measurement of physiological variables not set by mathematical formulas. Over time changes in blood lactate levels reveal what physiological adaptation has taken place in each system and which forms of training are working or not working. Training time becomes much more efficient as the athlete performs only workouts that work.

Five reasons for a Lactate Assessment:

1. Establish your baseline.

When you know your initial performance status, you know how far you have to go to reach your goal(s) and which goal(s) take priority in maximizing your performance.

2. Know how hard to work.

Have your lactate measured to scientifically determine your training zones. Training at the right intensities allows you to maximize your sessions.

3.  Evaluate your progress.

Periodic testing will allow you measure your progress and see how far you have advanced from your baseline fitness level. With each assessment you'll understand how your body responds to exercise.

4.  Stay motivated and focused.

Each milestone that you achieve is a confidence booster and it helps you stick to the program. Get confirmation that all your hard work is paying off.

5. Revise, customize or evaluate your training program.

Eliminate the guesswork and stay on target. With periodic testing monitor your progress and make your adjustments accordingly. You get what you train.

Accurate & Reliable

Finger tip samples are taken and then analysed using a state-of-the-art medical blood lactate analyzer (a highly accurate, medical grade instrument which provides reliable, repeatable results - not to be compared to low cost, portable lactate analyzers which are often inaccurate).

Lactate Assessment
Recommended for cyclists or runners who want to
train with lactate-based training zones. Data is provided along with five aerobic training zones. Consultation is provided.
.

Data Provided:
Stage, Time, Heart rate, Watts for Cyclist or Speed (min/mile) for runners, Lactate mmol

Want to improve your fueling?

Combine with a Metabolic Profile to get your carb depletion rate.  Your VO2/VCO2 is measured during the assessment which allows us to determine your total caloric expenditure, Fat, and Carb for each of your stages.
Understand what your expenditure is for each of your zones and maximize your training and recovery. Avoid a costly mistake as simple as not eating enough when it counts.
